Jim Dehem

Jim Dehem is the President/CEO of Community Living Services as well as President of Friends of CLS, a separate non-profit endowment organization benefitting people supported by CLS. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from Western Michigan University. He has 42 years’ experience working in the field of intellectual/developmental disabilities.

Mr. Dehem also serves as a Director and the Vice Chairperson for the Center for Self-Determination. The Center is an international Training and Technical Assistance Center. He has been employed with Community Living Services since 1986.

Sylvia Kloc

Sylvia Kloc spent 20 years as the Executive Director of the Arc Northwest in Wayne County as well as 17 years volunteering for the advocacy organization. Ms. Kloc has spent most of her life fighting for inclusion and self-determination for people with disabilities. Now retired, she resides in Florida but makes several trips a year to Michigan to visit family and friends and attends Board meetings via teleconference. She continues to advocate for the freedom of all people with disabilities and intends on carrying on her son, Steven’s legacy, who passed away in 2009.

Who We Are?

The Center for Self-Determination is a non-profit organization, established in 2000, operating as the primary clearinghouse, training and technical assistance source on Self-Determination in the United States and other countries. The Center is devoted to working within the public and private sector to move power and authority over resources directly to individuals with disabilities, families and allies.
